Initiation
The attunement for Level I is the ritual which creates a new Reiki healer/practitioner. During the ceremony of attunement the sacred Reiki symbols are placed into the crown and in both palms of the receiver.

By receiving an attunement you are not receiving something that you didn't have before. Every living being is connected to the Source. The attunement is merely increasing the flow. So to speak, the Level I attunement would increases the flow from that of a garden hose to that of a fire hose, Level II would be comparable to a stream, and Level III to a river.

Alternative Schools
Please note that there are about 20 different Branches of Reiki and both the process and number of attunements may vary from school to school. I use the Lineage of Diane Stein, which stems from the Tibetan Lineage. By working with the Microcosmic Orbit of Chi, this Lineage has one attunement per Level. I would encourage you to look at the various Reiki Branches and their teachings with tolerance and an open mind. Not all Branches honour one another's teachings.

Should you come across intolerance, remember that Reiki is The Universal Life Force, and being of God it is it is forever changeless, no matter what people believe. There are even attempts to trademark Reiki!

Adjustment time
There is a time of adjustment after each attunement, which can last up to 3 months for Level I to integrate the changes. You may or may not experience a time of cleansing and detoxification on the physical level. Know that this is completely normal and harmless. Drink lots of fresh water and keep doing your daily Self-Healings and you will move through such a time with ease.

I create Reiki charged Healing Scarves which are a wonderful help during the adjustment time, when you still have to go about your day. Wrapped around your neck the Reiki will gently soothe you, and the silk scarf by itself and by the touch of Reiki will add to your looks as well. You may also experience an emotional adjustment, or other changes. It is part of your own healing. Again be assured that what ever happens is your reaction to the higher flow of Chi and it works for your highest good. Allow yourself the time to heal, be kind and patient with yourself.

Reiki Guides
With receiving the first Reiki attunement, the new Reiki healer also gets his Reiki guides assigned. She may not yet be aware of them, but they are there with her, to help. Ask for their assistance and guidance before you start a healing session. And don't forget to thank them at the end. Your Reiki guides are with you from day 1 of your Reiki Journey. By the time you decide to move on to Level II you will start to work consciously with your Reiki Guides and be more aware of their presence.
